And lately, I’ve realized…

Not because…

The Version of Me People Never See

There’s a version of me people see every day.

The smiling version.
The leader.
The creative.
The entrepreneur.
The motivator.
The one who keeps showing up.

And then there’s the version of me people don’t see.

The version fighting just to function.

The version calculating energy before taking a shower.
The version negotiating with pain before answering emails.
The version wondering if my body can handle the responsibilities attached to my purpose.

People see me talking.
Laughing.
Posting…

Who really holds you when life gets heavy?

Fibromyalgia changed the way I experience love.

Not just romantic love.

All love.

Friendships.
Family.
Support.
Safety.
Connection.

Everything.

And honestly?

One of the biggest things it taught me is this:

People can love you and still not have the capacity to hold what you’re carrying.

That’s a painful realization.

But it’s real.

In the beginning, one of the things that deeply connected me and my wife was understanding invisible illness.

She has MS.

I have fibro.

Different…

Strength has a cost

People always talk about strength like it’s beautiful.

But nobody really talks about what strength costs.

Especially when you become “the strong one.”

The dependable one.
The resilient one.
The one everybody assumes will survive it.

Truthfully?

That role can get lonely.

Because over time, people stop asking:

“How are you really doing?”

And start assuming:

“You’ll figure it out.”

And maybe they’re right.

Maybe I will.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not human while doing it.

This journey has made every part…

Hope is choosing to believe better days still exist

One thing about me?

I’m not letting go of hope.

Not now.
Not after everything I’ve survived already.

And honestly…

I don’t even think I’m chasing the old version of myself anymore.

I’m not trying to get back to 100% of who I was.

I’m trying to become 100% of who I am now.

That shift changed everything.

Because yes, there may still be limitations.

There may still be management.

There may still be difficult days.

But I believe healing is still possible.

Improvement is…

Learning how to survive the day without losing yourself

People hear the word “rest” and think peace.

Sometimes I hear the word “rest” and think frustration.

Because before fibromyalgia?

I was always moving.

Working.
Creating.
Traveling.
Grinding.

Now?

My body decides what’s possible.

And that’s been one of the hardest adjustments of my life.

So the small things matter now.

A lot.

Music is huge for me.

But interestingly enough…

Not the same way it used to be.

These days, I lean more into jazz.
Classical.
Lo-fi.

Softer sounds.

Faith doesn’t always remove the pain… sometimes it teaches you how to carry it

I’ve definitely questioned God.

Not once.
Not lightly.

Real questions.

Real frustration.

Because before fibromyalgia, there was already history.

Twenty years ago, I dealt with a groin injury.
Seven surgeries.
A low chance of having children.
Two near-death complications.
Losing a testicle.

And somehow…

I understood that season better.

I felt like God was using my health to keep me close to Him.

So even when it hurt, I had peace with it.

But…

What hurts more than the pain… is being misunderstood

Living with fibromyalgia is one thing.

Trying to explain it to people?

That’s something else entirely.

It’s already a lonely road when you’re chasing purpose.

When you’re disciplined. Focused. Different.

I’ve always been wired that way… to redirect, to lock in, to keep going no matter what.

But fibromyalgia?

That changed the equation.

Because now it’s not just about ambition or focus.

It’s about managing something most people don’t even understand.

And truthfully?

What it does to your mind when your body won’t cooperate

Fibromyalgia didn’t just challenge my body.

It challenged who I thought I was.

I’m a man of responsibility.

I do the work.
I show up.
I want to win.

That’s who I’ve always been.

But life hit me in waves.

My body shut down.

I couldn’t move.

Not “I’m tired.”

Not the one people see online.

Not the one smiling through the moment.

The one on the court.

Basketball wasn’t just a game for me.

It was rhythm.

It was release.

It was thinking in real time: fast, sharp, alive.

Every play was a decision.

Every mistake had a chance for redemption on the next one.

That space… the air, the sweat, the sound of the net snapping…

I miss it.

Fibromyalgia didn’t just bring pain.

It took something from me.

What “fine” really feels like when your body is at war

Some days, fibromyalgia feels like a lie.

Not because it isn’t real…

But because of how invisible it is.

On the surface, I look “fine.”

Put quotes around that— FINE.

I can post. I can smile. I can show up to an event, a meeting, a moment.

And people see that version of me and assume that’s the whole story.

But underneath?

My body is screaming.

Pain sitting at an eight.
